Early Shoppers Could Score Best Holiday Deals

Retailers are starting earlier than ever this year offering rock-bottom holiday deals weeks before the frenzy of Black Friday.

Analysts said retailers realize that if they don't offer deals now, they'll lose out to competitors that do, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported.Kmart began offering layaway deals in October, while Sears is having Black Friday-type deals now until Nov. 20."We're trying to drive sales this year and get people in early to get their Christmas shopping done early," said Stacey Woods, a spokeswoman for Target, where aisles are lined with yellow tags slashing prices on everything from clothes to toys to electronics.Butler University business professor Bill Reiber predicts that this year's discounts will be bigger and sales will last longer, particularly on toys and electronics."It's what we expect because unemployment is so high that people have to be very cautious in their buying, so they'll look intently for sales," he said.
