Elton John is a bit under the weather.

The singer, 65, was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning after developing a serious respiratory infection while performing his show, "The Million Dollar Piano," at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Sunday.

UK library acquires key early gospel for $14 million

LONDON (Reuters) - A seventh century gospel discovered in a saint's coffin more than 900 years ago, and the oldest European book to survive fully intact, has been acquired by the British Library for $14 million (nine million pounds), the library said on Tuesday.

The manuscript copy of the Gospel of St. John called the St. Cuthbert Gospel was produced in the northeast of England in the late 7th century and was placed in the saint's coffin on the island of Lindisfarne, probably in 698.

Competition Bureau says credit card issuers set up perverse system

OTTAWA - Canada's credit card system is a 'perverse' place where shoppers who pay with cash or debit subsidize purchases made with credit cards, the Competition Bureau argued Tuesday in its opening salvo against Visa and MasterCard.

That's because merchants pay high fees for accepting credit cards and those costs are passed on to all consumers, the bureau's lead counsel Kent Thomson said in his opening statement to a tribunal hearing whether credit card companies are engaging in anti-competitive behaviour.

Samsung dominates the planet, for now

In response to a consumer shift towards healthier eating, Loblaws has announced that they will be removing all artificial colours and flavouring from their President's Choice line of products.

All artificial colours will be removed by the end of this year, and all artificial flavours will be phased out by the end of 2013.

"We are focused on food and committed to taking the lead on those issues of importance to Canadians. We're also thinking more strategically about corporate social responsibility and the areas in which Loblaw can have the greatest impact," says Ian Gordon, senior vice president of Loblaw Companies Limited.

Octomom files for bankruptcy, delays auction of her home

Just one day after Nadya "Octomom" Suleman insisted "I am making money" and could afford a $520 haircut, she claimed Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The single mom-of-14 filed in federal court on Friday, three days before her graffiti-covered La Habra, California, home was set to hit the auction block because she hasn't made a mortgage payment in a year. In the court papers, the 36-year-old listed her assets as $50,000 and her debts up to $1 million. Amongst her creditors: Verizon Wireless, bottled water company Sparkletts, Indy Mac Mortgage, Orkin Pest Control, the Department of Motor Vehicles, a Christian school, and the gas, electric, and water companies. "I have had to make some very difficult decisions this year and filing Chapter 7 was one of them," Suleman, who is on welfare, said in a statement on Monday. "But I have to do what is best for my children and I need a fresh start."

The phrase "snail mail" may have never been more applicable. A postcard from the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago just reached its destination 53 years after it was mailed. Last week, Elizabeth Fulcher, who lives on Clairmont Lane in Daytona, Florida, received a postcard addressed to a Scott McMurry on Clairmont Avenue in Decatur, Georgia. McMurry did once reside on Clairmont Avenue in Decatur when he was a child. Fulcher said she was immediately intrigued by the two-cent stamp attached to it.
