Airlines, hotels and other travel companies have moved beyond their own websites to promote travel, and you can find some great deals through social-networking sites. These companies are trying to increase their following by offering special deals, promotions and general news using sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

At Bestfares.com, we post stories and deals on our website and also to Twitter, Facebook and our blog. We've found Twitter to be a better tool than e-mail for spreading the word about Snooze You Lose, those short-lived sales we find, because we can get the word out quickly.

Some of the best Snooze You Lose fares are a result of mistakes made by the airlines, and those mistakes have been widespread since January.

A couple of weeks ago, Delta mistakenly entered fares from Dallas to almost anywhere in Europe for under $400 round trip, including taxes and fees, and most fares were under $360 round trip.

It would have taken three hours to get the word out to everyone on our e-mail list, which was about how long the fares lasted, but we were able to notify travelers in moments via Twitter.
